History & Cultural Legends

Explore the historic footprints, regional legends, and cultural tales linked with this spot.

Jogini Falls holds deep sacred significance for the indigenous people of Vashisht and surrounding valleys. In local folklore, the falls are believed to be the holy abode of the 'Joginis'—female mountain deities or spirits who protect the waters, forests, and alpine meadows of the region. A small shrine dedicated to the Joginis sits near the base of the pool, where locals perform regular prayers and offer seasonal sacrifices to ensure agricultural prosperity and healthy water flows. Because of its spiritual nature, bathing or swimming directly near the sacred temple pool is traditionally restricted.

What to Expect & Experience

In-depth insights into geography, surroundings, local customs, and seasonal recommendations.

Jogini Falls is a spectacular cascade that falls from a height of approximately 150 feet, flowing down into the Beas River below. The trek to the falls begins at the historic Vashisht Village and winds through narrow mountain trails, terraced apple orchards, dense pine groves, and small glacial streams. The walk is relatively gentle and presents some of the most striking views of the snow-clad peaks of the Pir Panjal range and the roaring Beas River. Upon arriving at the base of the waterfall, travelers are greeted by cold mountain spray and a quiet pool of mountain water. A steeper trail leads up to the top of the falls, offering a closer look at the gushing waters and a panoramic overview of the valley.
